US Census Bureau provides statistical data about the people, economy, and demographics within the country. It provides geographic infrastructure that makes it possible to collect, process, tabulate, and disseminate the statistical data. The Bureau also conducts stakeholder outreach and has several advisory groups with members from the private sector and the academia.
In an exclusive interview, Deirdre Dalpiaz Bishop, Chief Geography Division, US Census Bureau, discusses the role of her organization, ongoing transformation, the road ahead, and much more.
“Things are moving faster than ever before. In the past, as a geospatial data provider, we were able to take our time and release the information annually or twice a year. However, as things continue to evolve, we will have to release the data much faster, integrating it with statistical information so that it gets in the hands of the people. With increased understanding about the power of geography, people are asking for more information”
