Geospatial World and Autodesk India release ‘Leveraging BIM for Sustainable Design and Construction in India’ ebook

India is embarking on a massive infrastructure journey wherein the contribution of the construction industry to the Indian economy and the country’s socio-economic growth is significant. Given the Government’s plan to build 100 airports, construct 20 million affordable homes, and modernize 8000 railway stations, the country needs a policy within the current infrastructure ecosystem to enhance the adoption of digital construction solutions (in particular, building information modelling (BIM)) and deliver this grand vision better and more quickly. To improve workflow productivity and efficiency, the sector requires proper management of all construction activities, including planning, scheduling, drawings, and information management techniques such as BIM.

As a guide for Indian officials to lead the way in digital transformation of the Indian construction industry, Autodesk, the global leader in BIM technology, in collaboration with Geospatial World, has published an eBook, titled, ‘Leveraging BIM for Sustainable Design and Construction in India’. The eBook showcases the benefits of using BIM for sustainable infrastructure lifecycle management and the impact on construction projects by curating five best case practices of BIM usage in Indian infrastructure projects.

“Digital transformation is key to infrastructure projects in India, and the change has to happen now. BIM lies at the centre of this digital transformation process as an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives AEC professionals the tools and insights to plan, design, construction and manage infrastructure more efficiently and effectively,” said Sunil M.K., Head – AEC, Autodesk India on the release of the eBook.

In India, most projects still see cost overruns of 20% on average, along with time overruns and material wastage. This is a significant loss of money. By using BIM, stakeholders can simulate infrastructure sustainability conditions for the future and build them accordingly. “BIM allows stakeholders to design in 3D, make intelligent decisions, and spend wisely. The eBook brings forth the many benefits of using BIM in Indian infrastructure projects and highlights the benefits of BIM to increase collaboration, reduce rework, and promote collaborative thinking and planning in the project workflows,” adds Ananya Narain, Director – GW Consulting, Geospatial World.

Discover how BIM is used across infrastructure projects in India, enabling architects, contractors, and consultants to strengthen their ability to sustainably design and construct Indian transportation and building infrastructure projects with Leveraging BIM for Sustainable Design and Construction in India.
