Danish company offers ‘freemium’ BIM app for phones, tablets

DENMARK: The Danish software company Dalux is introducing its BIM viewer for smartphones and tablets in a free-of-charge version to users in the US. When the company made a similar move in Europe, it had a significant impact on BIM adoption across the continent.

“In Europe, we saw that workers were eager to use BIM on-site, but they were often unable to do so because of high costs or the complexity of solutions available. As a result, we launched a freemium version of our BIM viewer for smartphones and tablets. In some markets, BIM on-site became the new normal within 12 months from the date of our release. Now, we hope to work as catalyst for a similar development to take place in the United States” says Malthe Slemming, vp at Dalux.

The freemium version of the Dalux BIM viewer can handle multiple large and complex BIM-models with the option to view drawings alongside. The viewer can be also accessed offline and works well on both iOS and Android devices. Dalux applications have been used on more than 30,000 construction projects in more than 90 countries around the world.
