Former President and CEO of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), Mark Reichardt conferred with ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award on October 6, 2020, during the Geospatial World Awards 2020 virtual event.
Mark Reichardt played an important part in championing the cause of open geospatial standards for diverse communities. Under his leadership, OGC grew into a global organization. Reichardt also works with other standards development organizations and associations to establish alliances, which ensures that OGC and industry standards are in sync.
Reichardt was previously involved in technology modernization and production programs for the US government. One of the programs he worked for illustrated the use of geospatial information and technologies to improve local to federal government coordination. He led the program for the establishment of international Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for the US Federal Geographic Data Committee, which eventually helped in establishing globally compatible national and regional SDI practices in Africa, South America, Europe and the Caribbean.
