Making Archaeological Discoveries using Drones in Ireland

A history professor in Missouri’s Saint Louis University is making archaeological discoveries using drones to map a medieval Irish site. Dr. Thomas Finan and his team are working in Ireland’s North Roscommon region to discover more details about a major medieval Gaelic settlement. Apart from using traditional mapping methods, like radiometry and topographical surveys, the team is relying heavily on aerial surveying through drones. Dr. Finan says that wrapping digital geophysics data with 3D data is giving the team an amazing understanding of what is there without sinking a spade.
