India is one of the most flood-prone countries in the world. Floods occur in almost on all rivers basins in the country resulting in many damages. To assess the damage is very critical in the case so that decision-makers can plan relief operations. For the purpose, satellite-based imageries due to their synoptic coverage are the best tool. Indian Space and Research Organization is working in the direction by providing its different satellite programmes that collect the required data for the delineation of flooded areas. ISRO uses both optical and microwave satellites data is being used.
