Geospatial Media and Communications established the GeoBuiz Leadership Awards to recognize and acknowledge geospatial leaders in the United States who have gone an extra mile and paved the way for our industry to follow.

This year’s awards committee comprised of three eminent and widely recognized professionals from the geospatial community – Mark Reichardt, CEO, Open Geospatial Consortium; Ivan DeLoatch, Executive Director, FGDC; and Chris Tucker, Founder, MapStory Foundation.

The committee recognized Willis’ remarkable leadership in the Integrated Ocean Observation System project – that is acting as a vital tool to understand the oceans and coastal environment. The committee found the new initiatives (outreach) taken up in the recent years at the national and regional levels to be enormously useful in strengthening the program.

“I’d like to thank Geospatial Media and Communications for providing a unique platform to extend outreach, share knowledge and enable business development amongst policy makers, user and technology providers. Because it’s only through a unified and persistent voice will we be able to understand and predict the power of earth observation and information to understand how earth predicts our basis for development and how society and it’s choices impact Earth life support upon which the well-being of the present and the future depends,” stated Zdenka Willis, Director, NOAA Integrated Ocean Observing System Program.
