Zambia gets web-based disaster response system

Zambia: Zambia Government developed a web-based spatial data infrastructure system embedded in the Zambia Preparedness and Response Information Management System  (ZAPRIS)  aimed at enhancing  early detection of natural disasters in the country.

Speaking at the commemoration of the World Humanitarian Day, national coordinator of Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) Dominiciano Mulenga said the system, developed in association with the UN system in Zambia, will improve the ability of the Government and communities to reduce the negative impact of disaster related to climate change.

Mulenga also revealed that the Government with the support of the UN is in the process of establishing a GIS-based natural hazard risk map which will also provide data for food security, nutrition, health, water and sanitation.
