World Bank provides extensive collection of mapping data to Geography Network data repository

ESRI, the leading developer of geographic information system (GIS) software, has announced that the World Bank Group provided 23 unique layers of worldwide mapping data, or “development indicators,” to the Geography Network for inclusion in its extensive collection of georeferenced data. The World Bank has indicated that its goal for worldwide development is to permanently improve the welfare of people everywhere. The world development indicators measure the progress toward this goal. The following list details some of the data provided by the World Bank to the Geography Network.

  • Annual deforestation, 1990-2000
  • Carbon dioxide emissions per capita, 1997
  • Child malnutrition, 1993-1999
  • Freshwater resources per capita, 1999
  • GDP per capita growth, 1990-1999
  • Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, 1999
  • Gross capital formation as a share of GDP, 1999
  • Irrigated land, 1996-1998
  • Military expenditure as a share of GNI, 1997
  • Percentage of total land area covered by forest, 2000
  • Paved roads as a share of total roads, 1995-1999
  • Population, 2000
