Vietnam: Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) organised a workshop, “Vietnam – Japan cooperation in Space Technology”, which provided scientists and experts from Vietnam and Japan, who are working in the field of space science and technology, an opportunity to discuss ideas, exchange experiences and explore opportunities and potentials from both sides in developing the cooperation relationship.
Prof. Pham Anh Tuan, Director of Vietnam National Satellite Center introduced VNSC, the cooperation programme in capacity building with universities in Japan and the future cooperation with Japanese partners in space technology and applications. Prof. Nguyen Khoa Son from Vietnam Space Technology Program presented an overview of Vietnam National Research Program on Space Science and Technology with main scientific outcomes of the inception phase 2008-2011.
Dr. Bui Trong Tuyen, Director of Small Satellites Project Management Unit presented the VNREDSat-1 project, the first earth observation satellite of Vietnam. Representatives from Japan organisations such as METI, JAXA introduced the potential cooperation programmes in space science and technology, while representatives from companies such as NEC, MELCO, MHI, IHI Aerospace talked about satellite manufacture and launching system. Other organisations such as Pasco, RESTEC, Japan Space Systems presented potential applications of satellite technology.
Prof. Nakasuka from University of Tokyo presented educational projects and programmes on satellite technology.
