July 25,2002 Woolpert LLP was recently selected to complete a tri-county global positioning system (GPS) geodetic control monumentation project. Funding for the project comes from the fiscal courts of Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties; Sanitation District Number 1; Northern Kentucky Water Service District and the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission (NKAPC). The scope of the work covers Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties in northern Kentucky.
The purpose of this project is to establish a high-accuracy geodetic control network using GPS technology. Ultimately, this project will provide NKAPC with a framework of horizontal and vertical geodetic control for the tri-county area that will support future surveying, mapping and engineering programs. The overall density of the network is anticipated to achieve a two- to three-mile radius of paired monuments for the entire tri-county area.
Woolpert will design a control network plan that will satisfy the National Geodetic Surveys specification for a first order horizontal control survey. Woolpert will also assist NKAPC in developing a web-based data dissemination program whereby the information developed from this project and other existing control information can be made more easily accessible to the public.
