Velodyne Lidar, Inc. recently announced that it has entered into a three-year sales agreement with Baidu for its Alpha Prime Lidar sensors. The Alpha Prime sensors will be employed for autonomous applications.
Velodyne Inc. quoted Yaoming Shen, Sr. Optical Engineer, Baidu as saying that in fulfilling their intelligent driving mission, Baidu works with innovation leaders like Velodyne to bring a safe, efficient autonomous driving experience to everyone.
Wei Weng, executive of Asia, Velodyne Lidar, said that Velodyne greatly values their relationship with Baidu, a strategic business partner and investor, and that they are deeply committed to their combined work in the Chinese market.
Velodyne’s Alpha Prime is expected to be a next generation lidar sensor that utilizes Velodyne’s patented 360-degree surround view perception technology to support autonomous mobility. An experience of over ten years of lidar development and learning, the Alpha Prime supports autonomous operation across a broad range of road settings, including urban and highway environments. Velodyne has multiple manufacturing sources available, including within the U.S., Japan and Thailand, to supply high-quality sensors at scale to deal with customer needs.
