Varion Systems, the software development and value-added reseller division of Chicago-based GeoAnalytics, Inc., has completed a comprehensive GIS-based computerized maintenance management system for the City of Beloit, Wisconsin. The project’s primary objective was to implement a work management system for the City’s newly acquired water system.
After acquiring the water system from Alliant Energy, the City needed a computerized maintenance management system that would allow them to effectively manage the utility. With the assistance of the City’s engineering and GIS vendor, the City selected Varion Systems to implement Cityworks, a GIS-based computerized maintenance management system from Azteca Systems.
Varion Systems provided Cityworks implementation services including creation of service request and work order templates, prototype development, Geodatabase design, on-site training, and coaching. Using ESRI’s ArcGIS and ArcSDE technology in conjunction with SQL Server 2000, the City can now perform work management tasks in a GIS environment using a centralized application against their newly acquired water utility. The City went live with Cityworks in the water department in April 2004 with plans to extend its use in the future to other departments.
