Exactly 119 years ago, the city of Montgomery, US, unveiled the “lightning route, ” the nation’s first electric trolley system. On Friday, city officials celebrated by launching the nation’s first ever GPS-guided trolley system. It’s a re-vamped version of the lightning route, complete with satellite-guided audio tours of the city’s historic sites.
The lightening route is just one of the many things unique to Montgomery featured in Friday’s edition of the New York Times. The paper’s spread on Alabama’s capital city showcases everything from the rich history of Dexter Avenue to rich coconut meringue pies and mouth watering corn bread at Martin’s Restaurant.
