Ohio: The United States Postal Service is in the process of handing out more tracking devices to the carriers. These devices are meant to make real-time tracking of carriers a reality.
Currently, the carriers have to scan bar codes in different mailboxes along their routes so that the supervisors can see where they are. The scanning has to be done ten times a day. However, the carriers have been told to expect cell phones that will be able to send the same type of information in real time. In an email response to 2 NEWS Investigates USPS spokesman David Van Allen wrote that USPS started using wireless technology in addition to the scanning devices this year so customers could better track their items. So far in the Dayton area, the Beavercreek, Washington Township, and Oakwood branch offices are using the technology.
