US: The city of New Bern in North Carolina is going to map its electrical infrastructure over a period of six months.

Previously, the city”s 14 main feeder lines had been mapped. The new utility mapping project is aimed at finding specific GPS locations of all of its electrical equipment. These locations will be used to create a GIS database for the city. This will provide the authorities with an electronic snapshot of their equipment. It will map all power lines and circuit connections. The information will allow the staff to use a GIS database to make updates more efficiently. The project will enable the authorities to geographically map outages, plan response more strategically, and respond more efficiently.
