Uruguay may launch indigenous satellite by the year end

Uruguay: Uruguay is developing a 20 by 10 centimetres satellite which will be able to take pictures of the Earth, with its normal and infrared cameras, from 600 miles away. If all goes well, the Uruguayan satellite will be launched into space from Russia, later this year.

The state telecommunications company Antel and the University of the Republic have been working on this project which involves an investment of $ 695,000. Named as “Antel-SAT”, the CubeSat-class satellite, aims to make space technology more accessible.
