Sharjah, UAE: The University of Sharjah recently held a seminar on the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) in spatial thinking. The seminar was especially designed for students and faculty staff and focussed on the importance of GIS in today’s world and the need to introduce it in several disciplines to develop critical thinking mindset among the participants.
Esri Global Education Manager Dr. Michael Gould, in his introductory speech, gave several examples of the development and use of GIS in business, health and public safety, facility management and utilities.
A number of projects and works of different universities, libraries and museums in GIS were also showcased during the event. Gould emphasized on the importance of GIS in critical thinking and promoting the spatial approach of any problem for best solutions.
UAE has witnessed unprecedented growth of GIS and has become one of the largest users of GIS in the Middle East.
