University Network for Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa

University Network for Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa (UNEDRA) was recently created aiming at strengthening amongst universities in Africa with interest in teaching on disaster risk reduction, through information sharing, capacity building and collaborative research. Some of the main objectives are to share experiences on course activities that have already been initiated; identify Universities that have interest in developing such courses; learn about African initiatives on Disaster Management Training; programmes; learn about African programmes on the use of Geoinformation for Disaster Management; make an inventory of the requirements for support for setting up educational programmes on Geoinformation for Disaster Management.

It was decided that the initial coordination of the UNeDRA network would be taken up by the following organizations – Disaster Management Training Centre (DMTC),
University College of Lands and Architectural Studies (UCLAS), Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), Nairobi, Kenya, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda and International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Enschede, The Netherlands.
