US: United Airlines iOS application has been upgraded is with a host of new features, like interactive airport maps and beacon-enabled wayfinding. Right now, the app's interactive indoor maps are available for seven domestic hubs — Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco and Washington. The Bluetooth beacon functionality is being tested at the Newark hub. This technology identifies a person's location and guides them through the airline's Terminal C complex. “Travellers are accustomed to using maps and navigation apps throughout their daily lives – and that shouldn’t end when they walk into the airport. These new features of our app will make travel easier and more personal for our customers," said Scott Wilson, United’s Vice President of eCommerce and Merchandising.
