UNI to develop georeferenced database for Paraguay

Paraguay: National University of Itapúa (UNI) and Yacyretá Binational Entity (EBY) in Paraguay signed Cooperation Agreement No. 2 to develop georeferenced database for decision makers. Under this agreement, EBY will also set up Geomatics Technology Unit in the UNI campus. 
“Geomatics is a fusion between geography and computer science. It is now a powerful tool without which public institutions can not develop effective programme,” said Prof. Ing Hildegard Gonzalez, Rector of the University of Itapúa. 
Geomatics Technology Unit will be used in various fields such as public security, policies related to socio- economic, cultural, political and environmental issues. It will develop tools for various purposes such as geo-print and digital mapping, land surveying, remote sensing, census and other surveys. 
“With the Geomatics Technology Unit, EBY will enhance its technical capacity and strengthen itself as a promoter and manager of national and regional development,” said Ing Miguel Fulgencio Rodriguez, Director of EBY.
