Unavailability of experts delays mapping

New Delhi, India, 16 May 2006 – The Delhi government has asked civic agencies to speed up work to put underground facilities such as sewer systems and cables in the Capital on the Geographic Information System (GIS). The Urban Development Minister Dr A K Walia chaired the meeting, which was attended by officials from various civic agencies and NIC, which is handling the project. During the meeting, it came up that unavailability of experts was delaying the project. Senior officials said once these facilities were put on GIS, cables would be laid using the trenchless technology, thus not frequently digging up roads.
