Ukranian Parliament opens access to geospatial data

Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of adopted the law of “On National Geospatial Data Infrastructure: for the people of the country. With this, the country’s Parliament helped in providing the free access to required information for citizens and economic entities. The decision was backed by the 302 MPs.

This law helps in the legal foundations to create, operate and develop national geospatial data infrastructure, defining the principles for its creation and progress. As per the law, a modern system to work on the need of society will be formed. Apart from this, the cross-sectoral integration of geospatial data and the data related to the land register will be provided.

The country’s Parliament has also proposed to finance the creation, operation and progress of national geospatial data infrastructure. The government will also take the help of existing geospatial data already created by public authorities to prepare the new national geospatial data infrastructure. The latest law modifies the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses to introduce the liability in case of violation of the legislation on national geospatial data infrastructure. Most provisions of this law will come into force on January 1next year.
