22 August 2006 – According to officials at Ukraine’s National Space Agency, Nigeria is interested in cooperating with Ukraine in the space industry. This issue was discussed during a visit to the agency by a delegation of space experts from Nigeria, Cabinet’s press office reported.
Among other things, the two sides agreed to sign in October several agreements on training and raising the qualification of Nigerian specialists in Ukraine and assisting in upgrading Nigeria’s technical and economic basis for creation of a center for launching spacecraft.
Moreover, representatives of Nigeria’s National Space Research And Development Agency (NASRDA) provided the Ukrainian side with initial data for drafting proposals on creation of Earth remote sensing satellites as well as requirements for equipping a workshop for developing spacecraft and delivering the relevant equipment.
Draft documents that will define the direction of cooperation between Nigeria and Ukraine in the space industry were also prepared during the consultations. The signing of the documents is planned for October during the second meeting of representatives of the Ukrainian and Nigerian space agencies.
The two sides also initialled a draft framework agreement between the Ukrainian National Space Agency and NASRDA on cooperation in the area of space research and peaceful use of space.
