Uganda: After noticing massive forgery of peoples” land titles, the Uganda government has shifted to the Digital Automated Computer Land Titles system which it thinks will help address the problem.
The government announced in Kampala over the weekend that it is shifting to a modernised land administration and management, throwing out the manual system that has been highly manipulated by unscrupulous people.
The system will be interconnected where upcountry people will verify their land titles over the internet without necessarily coming to Kampala. The system will also eliminate congestion at the land registry where quacks have been taking advantage of unsuspecting people to swindle money from them.
Uganda”s vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi said a proper land management system will play vital roles in the transformation of the country”s economy.
“It makes it simple and easy for investors to access land,” said Ssekandi.
The modern land information system will help to identify and recognise land owners, and any other user rights that exist on the land.
“With modern system the country will experience reduction in land disputes. These disputes are very expensive to some parties especially the vulnerable categories who may not be able to pay for lawyer services.,” he said.
“It can lead to loss of land with rich parties outsmarting locals in courts of law,” stressed Ssekandi.
