UAV project suffers funding challenges

Nigeria: The Nigeria Air Force Institute of Technology (NAF-IT) announced that its plan to complete the UAV project is hampered by insufficient funding from the government.

In December last year, the Airforce Institute had unveiled the design of GULMA, the country’s first indigenous UAV, which had various military applications besides range of benefits in disaster management, power line surveys and law enforcement, aerial imaging/mapping, telecommunications and weather monitoring missions.

However, currently the Institute is busy in finalising the design and development of another UAV named AMEBO III that would be useful for mapping, pipeline monitoring and disaster management, besides military operations.
