UAE unveils federal security geospatial portal


Abu Dhabi: The first edition of the Federal Security Geospatial Portal has been launched by Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations. The portal is a first-of-its-kind in the region in terms of its institutional characteristics and its comprehensiveness of implementation. The portal includes details of the police and digital maps that are designed and developed internally through idea exchange and efforts made by international experts in the fields of GIS.

The portal aims to serve over 18 security and police entities, and police stations in the UAE. The project”s implementation is in line with the Ministry of Interior”s vision to enable security and police departments in the UAE by utilising the latest geographic and scientific methods and technologies. It provides those departments with required geospatial knowledge and information to help them accomplish their goals and to be the best police and security establishment in the world. It also enables them to convey accurate information to the largest segment of clients who work on the ground and in police offices.

The portal includes a unified standard geospatial database, which is considered to be one of the largest geospatial databases made for police purposes and security institutions worldwide. The database contains hundreds of layers of specialised security geographic data and is integrated with other databases used by the ministry.

Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi stressed that the launch of the security geospatial portal promotes the effectiveness of the police and the security ecosystem that is currently in use at the Ministry of Interior.
