Turkey: Turkey will make its satellite images public through an online portal.
RASAT, designed by engineers from the state scientific research institute TÜBİTAK, was launched in August 2011 from the Yasny Launch Base in southwestern Russia. It has shot images covering 3.8 million square kilometers. The satellite imagery is already being used by 50 public institutes covering the Prime Ministry’s Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), general directorate of mineral research and exploration. Now, the government plans to publish the country’s two-dimension map online.
