Chandigarh, India, 27 September 2006 – As traffic congestion is making it difficult for the buses to deliver services as per the schedule, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) is planning to introduce Passenger Information System in the city.

An ambitious plan is afoot to make available real time information to passenger at 100 bus queue shelters in the first phase. This would enable the commuters to have correct information of arrival time of the buses and schedules at the bus queue shelters. The schedules and time will be updated as per buses’ current location.

CTU will also install Global Positioning System (GPS) in buses to know the exact location of the vehicle, its speed and stoppage time at the bus stop. It will also show the exact location of the vehicles at the bus queue shelter and probable reaching time of the bus at the shelter.
