Iunctus Geomatics has announced that they have initiated the collection of over 1,000,000 km2 of 2.5 Metre resolution imagery for the summer of 2003. The collection represents one of the largest and highest resolution satellite mosaics ever collected in Western Canada. Complete mosaic availability is projected for October 31, 2003 (selected areas will be available in advance).
To facilitate the management and distribution of satellite and airborne imagery, Iunctus has also announced a new strategic alliance with TELUS Geomatics, a division of TELUS Communications Inc. According to the officail PR announcement, “This agreement will incorporate the use of Iunctus’ TerraEngine software to manage the distribution of images on the TELUS’ GeoExplorer(R) application. GeoExplorer is a secure web based application that allows users from companies of all sizes to view, edit and manage secure data on maps from the office, home, or on the road. GeoExplorer provides value added GIS services such as Emergency Management, Automated Vehicle location and Asset Management to various markets across North America.” This agreement coincides with the initiation of the 2003 summer acquisition of SPOT 5 imagery covering the energy-producing region known as the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. The collection area includes over 1.15 million square km of land and represents one of the largest and highest resolution satellite mosaics ever collected in Western Canada.
The SPOT 5 satellite is capable of producing image resolutions up to 2.5 metres while continuing to maintain a large 60 X 60 km image footprint. With the improved capabilities of SPOT 5, Iunctus is aggressively expanding its focus into markets such as agriculture, defence, energy, forestry, mapping, natural hazard management, telecommunication networks and urban planning.
Data collection appears to be progressing well See status map www.terraengine.com/WCSB however, as is often the case with remotely sensed data, gathering cloud-free data appears to be the greatest challenge.
The company has stated that two pricing options will be available for purchasers of the mosaic. Township by township pricing and Mosaic Subscriptions. Iunctus is currently accepting underwriters for the entire mosaic project. Iunctus Geomatics was Formed in 2000 and is a leading supplier of optical satellite imagery and associated services within Canada.
