Karachi, Pakistan, October 24, 2007: The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has awarded the contract for the design of the DHA drainage system and upgradation of its sewerage system to Techno-Consult International. This was finalised in a meeting presided over by the Administrator, DHA, at its head office. The entire project would take two to three years to be completed in a ‘phased programme’ while a sum of Rs750m (12.5 m USD) has been allocated by the DHA Executive Board for the project for the current fiscal year.
The project includes framing of a master plan of a drainage system for the entire DHA through a topographical survey and use of GIS technology. The consultant would employ a pre-cast modular design for building the new drains. In the first phase, three to four interconnected main drains would be built in this fiscal year to ensure smooth flow and drainage of storm water during the next monsoons, says the DHA statement. The work on the first phase of the project is expected to start by the end of December this year and would be completed on a fast track basis on a 24-hour construction schedule.
