Tanzania: The National Bureau of Statistics has announced plans to adopt GIS that will identify and link all financial access points in the country. The move is to fast track the collection of government revenues from various points, according to NBS Director General, Dr Albina Chuwa, revealed that her office was negotiating with the World Bank to finance the installation of the system.
According to Dr Chuwa the system shall incorporate the Tanzania Revenue Authority, the National Identification Authority and the Business Registration and Licensing Agency. “This is a nation-wide system which we foresee coming into operation in the next twelve months,” she said, adding that the system will be implemented using the GPS. Dr Chuwa explained that the implementation of the project is aimed at strengthening the collection and provision of the national data for the country’s economic development.
