Delhi: Dr. T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology unveiled the English and Hindi versions of Delhi State Map prepared by Survey of India in the presence of Dr. Swarna Subba Rao, Surveyor General of India. The map has attracted lot of interest and enthusiasm from the visitors. Dr. Swarna Subba Rao, Surveyor General of India, Sh. Uday Shanker Prasad, Superintending Surveyor, Smt. Bindu Manghat, Superintending Surveyor and other officers participated in the event.
The event took place on the occasion of 3rd National Level Exhibition and Project Competitions (NLEPC) under the Inspire Award Scheme held at ITPO, Pragati Maidan. On the occasion, Dr. Swarna Subba Rao, Surveyor General of India stated that SOI has taken initiative for generation of maps on 1:10k scale for the entire country. Topographical mapping proposed to be carried out by SOI is next level of GIS-Asset for National GIS project and the basis for National GIS version-2.0. SOI was primarily addressing to the basic mapping needs of the country using Topographical maps largely up to 1:50k and partially up to 1:25k. Therefore, SOI data represents primary National GIS-Asset up to 1:50k and its readiness for National GIS version 1.0 is of prime importance.
