Japan: SuperMap Japan has made all the information about emergency shelters public through its GIS cloud named ‘Geo2M’.
Geo2M offers information about 120,000 shelters. It includes details such as the name, address, type and capacity of each shelter. It also allows users to find the nearest shelter in case of an emergency. SuperMap Japan plans to develop the ability of issuing disaster alerts through Geo2M. This will also help in reducing emergency response time. The basic data for Geo2M has been collected from Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Geographical Survey Institute, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and Statistics Bureau.
