Supercomputer K reduces disaster risk in Japan

Japan: Collaboration between Tohoku University and Fujitsu Laboratories has led to the development of a real-time flood analysis system, which would allow Japan to gauge the estimated arrival time of tsunamis, as well as the probability and extent of building damage. The simulation model uses Fujitsu's supercomputer, K, which is capable of 10-quadrillion computations per second. Fujitsu researchers aim to ready the system for widespread public distribution within three years.
