US: Sue Gordon, Deputy Director, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), was honoured with the GeoWoman of the Year Award at the GeoBuiz Summit 2016. The award was presented by Mr Kevin Gallagher, Associate Director, Core Science Systems, US Geological Survey at GeoBuiz Summit 2016.
Geospatial Media and Communications established the GeoBuiz Leadership Awards to recognize and acknowledge geospatial leaders in the United States who have gone an extra mile and paved the way for our industry to follow.
This year’s awards committee comprised of three eminent and widely recognized professionals from the geospatial community – Mark Reichardt, CEO, Open Geospatial Consortium; Ivan DeLoatch, Executive Director, FGDC; and Chris Tucker, Founder, MapStory Foundation.
The committee recognized Sue’s crucial role at National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) especially in the areas of organizational transformation, embracing unclassified GeoIntelligence and undertaking new global partnerships to deploy GeoIntelligence in humanitarian and nation building operations.
“What Geospatial Media and Communications is doing to create a community across industry, government and academia to advance the use of geospatial information for societal gain is breath taking. To be honored as the first GeoWoman of the Year is humbling and I accept it on behalf of women who have come before to make our discipline what it is and the ones who will take us to the future, stated Gordon.
