The Department of Space, Government of India will start providing satellite imageries and thematic maps to four Remote Sensing Centres of the state of Manipur under strict guidelines to be followed while using the same. The department of space has informed the state that the guidelines for usage of the same by the state are being processed through inter-agency committee involving the ministry of home affairs and others. In the meantime, the department has provided guidelines suggested by them as an interim arrangement for using the satellite imageries and thematic maps by the remote sensing and satellite imageries application centres. The interim guidelines stated that all the satellite images and thematic maps must be kept under the safe custody of a senior designated officer of the Manipur government normally of senior scientist or under secretary and above grade. He should be designated for all the responsibility formally.
Satellite images to be procured from national remote sensing application under a license should be used as it is and no further scaling of the images can be done. All the satellite images and thematic maps should be catalogued and kept under secure lock and key custody of the designated officer. The officer must be authorised to issue the images and maps for government use to other departments as required with properly maintained records of the same.
