US: Commercial satellite manufacturer, Space Systems/Loral (SSL), received a contract to build six satellites for an advanced constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites for Earth imaging. The contract, however, declined to reveal the name of the customer. "Our new manufacturing facility dedicated to small satellite production allows customers to harness the capabilities of commercial practices," said John Celli, president of SSL.

SSL is a commercial satellites provider with expertise in supporting satellite operations and innovative space-related missions. The company is a subsidiary of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA), that designs and manufactures spacecraft for services such as direct-to-home television, video content distribution, broadband Internet, mobile communications, and Earth observation. SSL's advanced product line includes robotics and automation solutions for remote operations and state-of-the-art small satellites.

At the same time, MDA is a global communications and information company that provides operational solutions to commercial and government organizations worldwide.
