Sri Lankan conglomerate to launch vehicle location system

Sri Lanka, 23 December 2006 – A vehicle location system, which would utilize GIS technology, is scheduled to commence early next year. The system would be launched by one of Sri Lanka’s blue chip conglomerates the IWS Holdings Group.

IWS’s group Chairman Arthur Senanayake says the company has invested heavily on this project in technology, equipment, expert staff and training. “We will receive soon approval from the Defense Ministry and we have already completed obtaining GIS data of Colombo and its suburbs, Greater Colombo area and the main roads in Sri Lanka ,” he said.

Speaking to media Mr.Senanayake said the company hopes to introduce this system for corporate customers and individuals for very nominal monthly rentals. The company’s Chairman said this system also allows tracking and stopping the vehicle using the system. It can incapacitate the vehicle through the website. “We have completed extensive trials and we are now ready to launch, he stated.
