Sri Lanka to develop environmental database

Sri Lanka: The Central Environmental Authority (CEA), Sri Lanka, is considering to develop an environmental resource information database of each district using remote sensing technology and spatial databases.

Charitha Herath, Chairman, CEA, said the district wise data base would guide the country toward sustainable development. These data will help identify environmental systems including catchment areas, homes, industries, archaeological sites and religious places.

The data base is important for development planners, environmental researchers, university students and other professionals.
