SPOT Image opens subsidiary in Japan

Tokyo Spot Image, a joint venture between Spot Image France (51%) and ImageONE Co. Ltd (49%), a long-established player in the Japanese Earth observation market, is set to become Spot Image’s fifth subsidiary.

Tokyo Spot Image will distribute the full range of SPOT products and services for mapping applications (from urban planning to land management), agriculture, telecoms and environmental management. The Japanese market holds much potential, particularly in the traditional fisheries sector where Spot Image is expanding its business, and in mineral and oil exploration.

ImageONE’s acquisition of a receiving station including a SPOT 5 terminal will be a key asset in providing timely delivery of SPOT data. The station should be operational early in 2003. ImageONE signed a channel partnership agreement with Spot Image and has exclusive rights to sell SPOT products and services to customers in the Japanese national security market.

Tokyo Spot Image will also offer users geographic information from other optical and radar sensors, as well as complete project solutions.
