A system has been developed by OTC Digital Mapping Services Sdn Bhd, that provides “smart” locations to track the movement of a vehicle with today’s advanced ICT. It has been designed with V.Guard Smart Recovery System which is expected to provide an added security feature for vehicles in the event of a break-in or theft. It will be priced at RM2,600. Speaking at the media launch of the V.Guard smart recovery system at the Holiday Villa Subang, OTC chairman Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin said the MSC status company’s product was the brainchild of Malaysians. The entire V.Guard Smart Recovery System’s hardware and software is designed in Malaysia. It’s purely Malaysian technology.
The two-year-old company, based in Penang, develop the system using the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and GPS technologies.
The V.Guard enables users to enhance their cars’ security. Targeting the higher-end private vehicle market, the system allows signals to be sent and received via satellites through mobile phones and computers. Users will be alerted of any unauthorised activities by SMS or through notification by the company’s 24-hour control centres and can locate their vehicles with OTC’s digital mapping facility. The company also developed the V.TRAC3M multiple tracking system enabling transportation companies to monitor their fleet of vehicles more effectively. With about 1,000 subscribers, the system allows users to monitor more than one vehicle at a time and receive reports on vehicle location on a digital map and any unauthorised activities. On the extensiveness of the mapping service, Hamzah said roads of major cities in the country would be highlighted more extensively compared to those of smaller towns.
