SLA to boost geospatial capacity building

Singapore: The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) will work with the Ministry of Education (MOE), industry and training institutions to boost geospatial capacity building in Singapore, announced Singapore’s Law Minister K Shanmugam while he was addressing students during the annual Spatial Challenge event in Singapore.
According to the Law Minister, the geospatial industry is experiencing high growth. Global sales of geospatial products are projected to grow by eight per cent this year to USD5 billion. He expects a similar growth trend in Singapore.
Shanmugam opined that to take advantage of this growth, the Government launched two portals (OneMap, data.gov.sg) which will help kickstart the development of location-based business and social applications. He added for a start, basic Geographic Information System (GIS) courses have been arranged for public sector officers.
A regular geospatial information and technology forum has also been organised to facilitate the sharing of ideas and networking among industry professionals.
