Philippines: Philippines’ Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) will spearhead a project that seeks to map all online government services in a single portal, according to Ivan Uy, Chairman, CICT. The portal aims to provide a platform that would collate important information from different government agencies. It would result in better and more efficient delivery of social services in areas such as disaster management, crime mapping and resource management.
To make this project successful, the commission will collaborate with agencies such as the Philippine National Police, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. In addition, Esri has offered USD 6 million to help CICT “electronically enable” the country’s government services.
The Chairman said that to cut on costs, the CICT proposes the creation of a government-owned data centre for the services portal and GIS information.
