Scientists map secret tunnels of Rome

Rome: Geologists in Rome are mapping secret underground tunnels to determine their underground passages in order to prevent modern structures from crumbling into voids. Geoscientist Giuseppina Kysar Mattietti from George Mason University and scientists from the Center for Speleoarchaeological Research (Sotterranei di Roma) are mapping high-risk areas of the quarry system. They are using laser 3D scanning to map the tunnels, and map the maze by hand to make sure the area above the tunnels is safe.
