ScanEx conducts courses on thematic processing of space data using neural networks

Russia – On November 20-24, the specialists of the ScanEx Research & Development Center conducted training courses on “The Art of Thematic Interpretation – ScanEx NeRIS” in Moscow.

The courses were attended by 14 specialists from the Stavropolsky Governmental Center of Argo-chemical Services, Territorial Information Fund of the Ministry of Natural Resources for the Kirovsk region, Central R&D Institute of Robotics and Technical Cybernetics (St-Petersburg), “Transparent World” Non-commercial Partnership.

Theoretical and practical issues of the current status of the space images fund and their preliminary and thematic processing were tackled during the courses. Special attention was paid to getting practical experience in interpretation of space images using ScanEx NeRIS software application, based on neural nets. All up-to-date algorithms and methods of automatic image interpretation were also perused at the courses.

During practical training multispectral images from IRS 1C/D, Landsat-5, Terra/Aqua, SPOT-2/4 satellites were used, acquired at different times and in different climatic zones. Basic principles of different natural and anthropogenic complexes interpretation were reviewed as a result. A pilot project of spatial data interpretation from raw image data to a vector map was successfully implemented by the end of the courses.
