Riyadh: The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities is developing an app for a geographic information system (GIS) to help pilgrims and tourists perform religious rituals at the Kaaba and move around the city of Makkah.
“By using technology, one can take advantage of the possibilities the programme provides to best serve tourists and worshipers coming to Makkah,” GIS expert Essam Khundaneh said. This will “enable them to perform their rituals easily and safely”. The app will enable the users to find the shortest path to the Grand Mosque in a matter of a few seconds. They would also get to know about the traffic along the way.
