Abuja: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria plans to adopt satellite imagery in the proposed review of the electoral boundaries and constituencies in the country.

The Nigerian constitution empowers INEC to review the division of states into senatorial districts, federal constituencies, state constituencies and electoral wards, at intervals of not less than 10 years. Chairman of INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega has urged National Space Research and Development Agency (NASDRA) to coordinate with INEC to actualize the project through the use of satellite services, by getting high resolution imagery covering the entire nation as at 2012 in hard and soft copies. NASDRA will also generate imagery showing new settlements and population density in Nigeria in hard and soft copies.
