India: The state government of Bihar, the third most populous state in India, has decided to use satellite imagery for rural electrification.

The state government aims at completing electrification of villages with 100 or more houses in the next two years. It will use satellite imagery to identify villages and hamlets, and then prepare a detailed project report to be sent to the central government by October. “The Union energy ministry has assured to approve the report if submitted by next month,” said state Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav.
