Satellite imagery shows activity at Iran’s drone base

Iran: IHS Jane’s, a U.S.-based private defence analysis firm, has claimed that latest satellite imagery shows major development at Iran’s drone base on the island of Qeshm.

The air base”s main runway has recently been doubled in length to 1,600 metres which is sufficient to allow the facility to be used for launching Iran”s Shahed-129 drones, says Jane’s analysis report. The report claims that the development is a part of Tehran’s effort to consolidate military facilities around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world”s most strategic waterways. The satellite imagery also shows a new mobile radar, that “probably provides information that helps [drone] operators avoid collisions with civilian airliners using the nearby Qeshm International Airport,” reads the analysis of the site.
